Environment and Energy
 
The Commission on Environment & Energy develops business positions on major environmental and energy issues, and maintains ICC as the primary representative of business in key intergovernmental negotiations. The ICC Business Charter for Sustainable Development, available in 22 languages, has won the support of over 2000 companies and associations from more than 50 countries.

Projects for 2006

  • Develop ICC policy positions on energy, agriculture, chemicals, and cross-sectoral issues such as sustainable consumption, trade and environment and climate change.
  • Submit business policy position and achievements on the themes of energy, industrial development, atmospheric pollution and climate change to the 14th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development in New York; convene the business delegation’s participation and input, including through the Business Action for Energy initiative.
  • Elaborate multi-sectoral business policy positions for the intergovernmental negotiations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and lead the business delegation at the 12th Conference of the Parties.
  • Prepare business representation at major international events concerning biotechnology and biodiversity – in particular the 8th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in 2006.
  • Continue work on liability and redress issues with respect to damage to environmental biodiversity.
