ICC Publishing produces and distributes books on all aspects of international trade. Their content is derived from the work of ICC commissions, divisions and individual experts. Topics range from arbitration and legal publications, to banking practice, commerce and transport, environmental publications and reference works, reports and studies.

ICC rules and guidelines form the core of the publishing programme. These are updated as required to take account of technical developments and the evolution of commercial and banking practices. ICC Publishing also produces guides, case studies, handbooks and commentaries to assist practitioners in all sectors of international business, as well as authoritative reference works for commercial lawyers, bankers and traders.

ICC United Kingdom is one of the major distributors of ICC publications and our list covers over 100 titles. We also have excellent support from the London Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Financial World Bookshop, both of whom stock and sell our publications.

Although no major new bestsellers were launched in 2002, ICC Publishing did add some popular new titles to its catalogue. One of the first new publications to be launched in the year was the second edition of the ICC Model Distributorship Contract (Publication No.646), which provides a uniform contractual framework for drawing up distributorship agreements internationally. As is often now the case with ICC publications, the book includes a CD-ROM containing the full text of the model contract and its annexes. It forms part of an invaluable series of ICC books that address the problem of drawing up contracts in an international environment that lacks regulatory uniformity. Other important publications in the series are A to Z of International Trade (Publication 623), the ICC Model Commercial Agency Contract (Publication 644), the ICC Model Occasional Intermediary Contract (Publication 619), the ICC Model International Sale Contract (Publication No.556) and the ICC Model International Franchising Contract (Publication 557).

Banking publications are a major category. The most important new addition to this section was the new UCP supplement for electronic presentation, eUCP (Publication UCP/2). The eUCP covers electronic formats, amendments, place of presentation and notice of dishonour and preclusion. It is an addition to, not an amendment of, UCP 500. The supplement was published in January and followed shortly afterwards by the ICC Guide to the eUCP (Publication 639), which explains the concepts behind the eUCP rules and suggests how and where they should be applied. Cross references are also made with other ICC banking instruments such as International Standby Practices - ISP 98 (Publication 590) and the Uniform Rules for Demand Guarantees – URDG 458 (Publication No.458). Another major new banking publication was Trade Finance Fraud (Publication 643), covering some of the most spectacular frauds of recent years. This book was written by ICC Commercial Crime Services, an ICC specialist division based in the UK.

The ICC International Court of Arbitration is one of the foremost bodies of its type in the world. Our arbitration publications are therefore essential reading for anyone involved in this ever-expanding area. An important new arbitration publication released in 2002 was the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts (Publication 642). These rules are applied increasingly to supplement or interpret national laws, give international endorsement to solutions based on national laws, or as the governing law of the contract.

The publication offers a unique collection of articles by leading trade law specialists, analysing arbitral case law and appraising the UNIDROIT Principles in the context of international contract law and practice. The horizons of dispute resolution are widening around the world. Alongside litigation and arbitration, other methods of settling conflicts, such as mediation, conciliation, negotiation, mini-trials and neutral evaluation are being used in the business world to an increasing degree. In recognition of this, ICC Publishing produced a special supplement to the Bulletin of the ICC International Court of Arbitration looking at ADR: International Applications (Publication 640). Specialists from around the world explain the status of ADR in their respective regions, with a focus on key points of interest in this rapidly developing field. Also in the dispute resolution area, ICC Publishing released an updated and expanded version of its popular Dispute Resolution in Asia (Publication 949), which examines the question of whether there is a distinct Asian style of ADR.
