Andrew Hope - Director ICC United Kingdom |
Welcome
to the ICC United Kingdom website. I hope that this website will make
interesting browsing. There are many articles on the different aspects
of the work of ICC United Kingdom because this is something that continues
to surprise many individuals within our membership. That is because,
although they are very familiar with our work in their own specialised
fields, they have not really been aware of what we do in all the other
fields of business. One of the purposes of this website is to try
to let everyone know how broad is our scope of activities.
ICC International Court of Arbitration continues to be the main plank
of all our activities. The rules revision process, which culminated
in the publishing of our new rules to come into effect at the beginning
of 1998, has already begun to have an effect. We hope that the new
process will be quicker and more efficient, without diminishing the
superb quality control that is one of our Court’s strengths.
Our Commissions continue to produce rules and codes of practice in
areas where new guidelines are needed. In the banking area we published
eUCP, which is the electronic commerce version of UCP500. We continue
to revise and update our marketing codes of practice to keep them
up to date with international requirements. In the United Kingdom
we are very lucky because the key bodies involved in writing the domestic
United Kingdom codes are all involved in the updates of our international
rules in Paris, so we can always be sure that United Kingdom national
requirements have been taken into account in Paris.
As with rules and codes, ICC United Kingdom also plays a very full
part in all of our policy work in Paris, so that we can be sure of
including the views of our United Kingdom membership in policy statements
and representations that are made to international organisations such
as the World Trade Organisation, the EU, the World Bank and the United
Nations. Over the past twelve months our links with the WTO and the
UN have strengthened considerably. This year we have created some
new Commissions in areas which are now becoming key areas for business.
The new Commissions are on Anti-Corruption, Biosociety, Business in
Society and Customs & Trade Regulations. We are currently creating
UK Committees on Anti-Corruption and Business in Society, and will
follow with Biosociety and Customs & Trade Regulations in due
course.
I am sure that you will once again find this website helpful and also
an interesting read |
