Secretary of State for Trade & Industry speaks to ICC UK members on the Doha Round
On Thursday 17 November, and at a time when there has been increasing concern that negotiations in preparation for the Hong Kong Ministerial meetings have not been progressing well, ICC UK members listened to the The Rt Hon Alan Johnson MP, who is leading the UK Delegation in Hong Kong, speak on "The difference a successful Hong Kong could make".
We were very pleased to hear of the UK Government's commitment to keeping these difficult negotiations on track and we will be continuing our regular contact with the UK Government in the months ahead. The Secretary of State's full responses to questions from the floor recognised the importance of meeting the development agenda of the round, particularly in agriculture, but equally highlighted the opportunities of the other areas of the negotiations, services, industrial products and trade facilitation to offer real benefits to both developing and developed economies alike. The Secretary of State acknowledged the need for Hong Kong to produce real agreements, and that time was running out to achieve this.
However we were encouraged by his appreciation of the important work and scope of ICC and our role in getting the message from business to governments all around the world of the importance of maintaining the multi-lateral trade system and securing progress in the Doha round.
A full transcript of the Secretary of State's speech can be found on the DTI's website at http://www.dti.gov.uk/ministers/speeches/ajohnson171105.html.
Corrigenda to ICC publication 645
A small number of minor corrections have been made
to ICC Publication No.645, International Standby Banking Practice
for the examination of documents under documentary credits.
Most of these are minor mechanical adjustments that do not affect
the substance of the text and will be incorporated into future reprints
of the publication. One of them, a deletion in paragraph 187, is
a substantive change made after consultations with the insurance
industry. The final sentence of Article 187 has now been deleted.
